Indiana's Oldest Family Farm

A sheepskin deed signed by President James Madison placed this Orange County land in one family's hands in 1811 — five years before Indiana became a state. Ten generations of stewardship later, it remains.

Our Heritage

200 Years. One Family.

In 1811, Jonathan Lindley — a devout Quaker from Orange County, North Carolina — led his family west to escape slavery. With him came his daughter Ruth and her husband Joseph Farlow, who purchased this land from the Northwest Territory of the United States. The deed was signed by President James Madison. The farm has never left the family.

Today, the Farlow-Trimble-Haworth line reaches its tenth generation on this same Orange County ground — the oldest continuous same-family farm ownership on record in the state of Indiana.
